Many people are very poor at judging how assertive they should be in business negotiations, a new study finds, which may make them look like jerks or pushovers.

The lesson is to ask for feedback so that the person, becoming more self-aware, can fine tune his or her communication skills. Interestingly, research also shows that therapists are often wrong about how their therapy sessions go, and so, to improve their practice, should deliberately ask clients for feedback and repair any problems, or promise to at the next session, before the client leaves or the therapist may lose the case.
