Potpourri - Being poor in America
Being poor in America does not mean that people don't have access to cheap consumer goods from Walmart. Now days poor people have cell phones, TVs, microwaves, even the latest fashionable cheap clothes made in Bangladesh. What they don't have are houses, medical care, access to good lawyering, access to a private education, and child care. The poor can often afford cheap "stuff" but the access to professional services is beyond their means.
