Obama's first year is not only disappointing, it is a serious set bank for democracy. He was elected to straighten out health care, to get Americans back to work, to end the torture and illegal detention, to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to reign in Capitalism Out Of Control.
He had both the congress and Senate in his party and a popular mandate, and got into bed with the Republicans and sold out working class and every day Americans pandering to the corporate elites.
Obama's campaign coffers are overflowing, and he may be on his way to a second term. He has turned the Democratic Party from the party of the working class and the underdogs to Republican Lite. I don't see much change from Bush and I'm not sure that McCain/Palin would have been as bad.
Michael Moore is disgusted too. He sees what I see and the country, with the recent Supreme Court ruling giving Corporations unlimited ability to manipulate the electoral process of the United States, has turned the corner to fascism. With unemployment ranging from 10 - 30%, and 48 million Americans without health care, and public schools graduating students with a literacy rate, on average, of 4th grade, and the largest disparity of all time between rich and poor, our democracy is dead and is nothing which the founding fathers could have imagined.
From Democracy Now web site on 01/26/10:
Filmmaker Michael Moore joins us for a wide-ranging interview about Haiti, the Supreme Court decision on corporate campaign financing, President Obama’s first year in office, the Democrats, and much more. “The Democrats] don’t have the guts. They don’t have the courage of their own convictions. They’re disgusting. I’m embarrassed,” Moore says. “I want really nothing to do with them. And if they don’t find their spine, well, they’re in for a huge surprise in November.”
