There is an interesting study reported in the December, 2009, issue of the journal Psychiatric Services which found that psychotropic prescribing for Medicaid patients in New York State often falls outside of desirable practice guidelines.
With the advent of managed care models requiring PCPs to be the primary behavioral health care giver, many PCPs find themselves trying to provide services for which they are inadequately trained.
