Downtown Owl by Chuck Klosterman (check out the side bar)is one of those books which I didn't want to end. I fell in love with the characters Julia Rabia who moves to Owl, North Dakota from Wisconsin after college to teach at Owl High School, with Mitch Hrlicka who attends Owl High School and doesn't quite fit in, with Horace a 73 year old wise Elder who ponders the meaning of life, and with assorted other minor characters whose only thing is common is that they live in Owl. The book is an assortment of stories which run in parallel and they come to a bitter end literally when a blizzard strikes Owl which they all are caught up in.
As a therapist, I love books like this because of the character development and Klosterman seems spot on. If you are interested in what life is like in small town America, I recommend Downtown Owl.
