What are you? Being multiracial in a society that loves to categorize

I have a bi-racial granddaughter. And then there is Tiger Woods, and Barack Obama. Are they black or white or Native American or what?

Who cares? We do.

Why?

And it you are one of those multiracial people, where do you belong? Where do you fit in? Do you like the way people treat you based on how you look regardless of your preference for racial identity?

How about - We're all human beings and let it go at that? Not good enough, because........ we are tribal people. We like to herd together. It's in our genes and it enhances survival or does it?

From the UB School Of Social Work Living Proof web site:

This podcast features an interview with Dr. Kelly Jackson. Professor Jackson discusses her research on identity development among individuals of mixed heritage. The diverse cultural attachments associated with the shifting identities of mixed race individuals challenge the flawed system of socially constructed racial and ethnic categorization.
