Psychotherapy reflections - strip searches in schools

I have been involved with a number of kids in the last year where school districts have done great deal of harm under the guise of "zero tolerance."

School districts and personnel have been given a great deal of power to invade the personal lives of their students and even their student's physical person as the video below discusses.

This great harm is compounded by the state's requirement of compulsory education and for poor people who do not have the resources for private schools, this power is very great.

Our schools have become armed fortresses with security guards and weapon detectors and even drug sniffing dogs who comb the lockers and hallways.

One student told me that the doors had been taken off the toilet stalls and she would not urinate or defecate in school but "held it all day" so she would not be seen by schoolmates and faculty using the toilet. Another student got permission to go to the nurse's station to use the toilet for the same reason.

Schools are increasingly not mentally healthy places for our children to be congregating. I find it interesting how rarely these issues are discussed by the citizens who pay school taxes and support our public schools.

Avoiding these hostile environments and protecting children from bureaucratic nonsense is an excellent reason to homeschool.
