Reas Kroicowl has a great post today, February 18, 2009 on her blog Trench Warfare entitled, "Scoop up the field mouse and bop him on the head. Please" in which she describes the lunacy of hate talk radio and poverty in the United States.
Here is a snippet dedcribing some talk show bloviator named Bill Cunningham in Cinncinati:
The guy's a yahoo.
Here, and I quote, are his words of wisdom on the poor: "Poor people are not poor because they lack money. They're poor because they lack values, ethics, and morals."
Oh, yeah. I can't make this stuff up. Here, listen for yourself. The sound quality is poor, I'm warning you, but you can decipher what he's saying: (video 1 min, 34 sec)
This demonization of poor people is an old trick out of the Republican play book which began with Ronald Reagan when he demonized the so called "welfare queens", and then in the 90s when Newt Gingrich developed his "contract on America" with the help of Bill Clinton and they cut the guts out of the safety net which has left millions of Americans desperate and homeless.
