As a therapist who has been in the field for 40 years I am seeing problems presented in the office that I would never even have dreamed about 20 or even 10 years ago. I am going to tag them "electronic media".
Earlier this week I had a 14 year old girl in 9th grade tell me that her former boyfriend, the one to whom she lost her virginity, spread the information on the internet that he had gotten her pregnant. This is not true, but it certainly has changed significantly the preceptions of her peers.
This strikes me as a particularly vicious thing to do to someone.
Is it funny? Is it a joke? Is it male macho posturing? Is it retribution because she broke up with him?
My client says, he still calls her for sex and she doesn't talk to him anymore.
This is a new age with people facing new problems do to the electronic media. I have other stories as well. Please share your experiences and ideas about how to help people handle these new type of problems in our "cyber communities" and "virtual and not so virtual realities".
Video lasts 0:50.
This is article #1 on human problems with electronic media."
