Chop Shop, the film

Plot synopsis from the Internet Movie DataBase:

Alejandro, a tough and ambitious Latino street orphan on the verge of adolescence, lives and works in an auto-body repair shop in a sprawling junkyard on the outskirts of Queens, New York. In this chaotic world of adults, young Alejandro struggles to make a better life for himself and his 16-year-old sister, Isamar.

This film appears to be a documentary and portrays the life of two orphaned street kids, a brother and sister, who struggle to make a better life. These are the people who are overlooked in our soceity and whose story is rarely told. This is what makes this film so special.

I highly recommend it especially for Social Work students.

I give it a 4 out of 5 on Markham's "Just Because I Like It" scale.
