Wisdom of elders - interdependence

"All is pattern, all life, but we can't always see the pattern when we are part of it."

Belva Plain

We are not apart, but rather part of the interdependent web of all existence. The ego lies to us and nourishes our narcissism telling us we are special which may be true to some extent but we are not that special that we can exploit other people and life for selfish reasons.

As we get older, if we examine our lives, we come to appreciate the interconnections and realize that we are all utterly dependent on the sun, the oxygen we breath, the water we drink, on each other for our very consciousness. It is appropriately humbling to recognize our dependence and the appropriate response is gratitude.
