I've been thinking a lot lately about murder-suicides. I wonder what would have happened had the perpetrator sought help for his/her distress?
I have had people in my practice that I worry about. They are symptom free and hard to justify further treatment for, but I know that things are just not right. As long as they have a place to turn, I think that they are less likely to blow. I continue to see them pro bono even without insurance reimbursement thinking that the world will be a better place if people are just treated as objects of mercenary commerce.
I don't know how many lives I have saved in 40 years of practice. Just one has made it all worth it to me.
I speculate, where is the love?
