I see a lot of kids with ADHD not because of the ADHD per se, but because of secondary problems which the ADHD causes for the child and family.
Medication can be a helpful tool to manage the symptoms. Kids with ADHD are at higher risk for substance abuse than kids without ADHD and providing the child with appropriate medication decreases the liklihood that they will abuse illegal substances later.
